Amphibians
Salamander

An inhabitant of the brine pits of the salt mines of the Tahari, they are white and blind with long stem-like legs with fern-like filaments which are feather gills.

Arachnids
Scorpion

This is an arachnid, like those of Earth, which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Spider (Rock)

The rock spider is an arachnid which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi. It derives its name from its habit of tucking its legs under its body, making it resemble a rock, as it is gray in color. Once the prey is close enough, it will jump at it, sinking its fangs into its prey.

 

Spider (Swamp)

This is a man-sized arachnid which inhabits the swamplands near the city of Ar. They can communicate in human speech via mechanical translators they wear around their abdomens. Swamp Spiders (also known as the Spider People) spin Cur-lon fiber, which is used in the textile mills of Ar. They are gentle creatures and generally non aggressive, except for the females during times of mating.

Birds
Bird (Hermit)

This is an avian resembling a yellow-breasted woodpecker. It feeds on insect larvae. It hammers at the red bark of Tur trees to get at its food. The hermit bird inhabits the Northern Forests of Gor.

Bird (Umbrella)

This is a bird that lives in the lower canopies of the jungles inland of Schendi.

Bird (Veminium)

This is a bird with a beautiful song. Not much else is known. Possibly alike to an Earth nightingale.

Finch (Whistling)

This is a flighted bird found at the ground level of the rainforest inland of Schendi. As its name suggests, its cry is a shrill whistle.

Finch

This is a bird alike to those of the same name on Earth. The Gorean finch inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Fisher (Tufted)

The tufted fisher is a type of water fowl which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi.

Fisher (Ushindi)

This is a large, long-legged wading bird which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi. Its feathers are white and curled, often used in headdresses.

Fleer (Long-Billed)

This is a bird that inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. It is related to both the fleer and the prairie fleer.

Fleer (Prairie)

This is a yellow bird with long wings and a sharp bill; sometimes called the "maize bird" or "corn bird" from the belief that it is usually the first bird to find food. This bird is found only in the Barrens.

Fleer

The fleer is a large, hook-billed bird which hunts at night. It has a very vicious demeanor.

Fruit Tindel

This is a bird (?) which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Gant (Arctic)

This is a migratory bird that nests on the cliffs of the Hrimgar Mountains. The bird itself is prepared and eaten similar to vulo; roasted or wrapped in spiced leaves, while its eggs are frozen and eaten whole, like apples.

Gant (Jungle)

This is a bird, related to the marsh gant, which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Gant (Marsh)

This is a long-legged marsh bird with a piping cry; similar to a curlew. It is found in marshy areas, such as the swamp forests near Ar and the Vosk delta surrounding Port Kar.

Gim (Horned)

The horned gim is a small, purplish-colored, owl-like bird, only around four (4) ounces in weight, which inhabits the Northern Forests of Gor.

Gim (Lang)

This is an insectivorous bird which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Gim (Yellow)

This is a bird, related to the horned gim, which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Gort (Hook-Billed)

This is a carnivorous hunting bird of the jungles inland of Schendi; it preys on ground urts.

Grub Borer

This is an insectivorous bird which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Gull (Coasting)

Found in Torvaldsland is this broad-winged bird with black tips on its wings and tail feathers; similar to the Vosk gull. Its feathers are used on the war arrows of Torvaldsland.

Gull (Schendi)

Inhabiting the area around Schendi on the Thassa, the Schendi gull nests on land at night.

Gull (Vosk)

The Vosk gull is similar to the regular gull, except that it migrates from the Vosk river, making it a freshwater bird as opposed to its saltwater cousin.

Gull

The Gorean gull is alike to those of Earth. It lives along the shores of Thassa and feeds on similar fare as its Earth counterpart. It has broad wings.

Herlit (Forest)

This is a variation of the herlit, inhabiting the forested areas of Gor, rather than the open plains. It is a migratory bird.

Herlit

The herlit is the Gorean eagle; it has a wingspan of seven (7) to eight (8) feet and is usually about four (4) feet long. It is carnivorous, and has yellow feathers tipped with black. The herlit is also called "Sun-Striker" or "out-of-the-sun-it-strikes", from its habit of striking with the sun above and behind it. It has fifteen (15) tail feathers, measuring some fourteen (14) to fifteen (15) inches in length, which are highly prized by red savage hunters for their headdresses. The herlit inhabits the Barrens.

Jard

This is a small scavenger bird that flies in large flocks. A flock can strip the meat from a tabuk in seconds. Found near Lydius. It has a piping cry.

Kite (Meadow)

This is a migratory bird alike to the bird of the same name on Earth. Its path includes the Plains of Turia.

Lit (Common)

The common lit is a bird found in the jungles of the Schendi area.

Lit (Crested)

The crested lit is a bird found in the jungles of the Schendi area.

Lit (Needle-Tailed)

This is a bird found in the rainforests inland of Schendi.

Mindar

This is a short-winged, yellow and red bird of the jungles inland of Schendi. With its sharp bill, it digs in the bark of flower trees for larvae and bugs.

Owl (Horned)

This is an owl alike to the great horned owl of Earth. It inhabits the Northern Forests of Gor.

Parrot

This is a bird identical to those of Earth. It inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi.

Tanager

The Gorean tanager is alike to the bird of the same name on Earth. It inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi.

Tarn

Tarns are enormous relatives of the Earth golden eagle, some with a fifty (50) foot wing span. They are bred in two types: war tarns which are heavier but agile, trained to aid in battle and racing tarns which are slender, lighter birds bred for speed and endurance. Racing tarns are also used by messengers to go from one city-state to another. Tarns may also be wild.

Tibit

This is a small, thin-legged bird which lives on tiny mollusks found on the shores of Thassa; possibly a Gorean sandpiper.

Tumit

The tumit is a large, flightless, carnivorous bird of the plains; often hunted and eaten by the nomadic Wagon Peoples of Gor. Traditionally hunted with bolas, the sport lies in whether you or the bird gets to eat that night.

Vulo

This is a tawny-colored poultry bird, similar to the Earth pigeon, which also exists in the wild; it is used for meat and eggs. It is generally served roasted and spiced or baked in spice leaves.

Wader (Ring-Necked)

This is a variety of water fowl which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi.

Wader (Yellow-Legged)

This is a variety of water fowl which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi.

Warbler

This is a bird found in the jungle areas inland of Schendi. It is identical to the birds of the same name on Earth.

Woodpecker

This is alike to those of the same name on Earth. The Gorean woodpecker inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Zad (Jungle)

This a cousin of the Tahari zad; found in the jungles inland of Schendi.

Zad

The zad is a large, broad-winged, black and white bird with a long, narrow, yellowish, hooked beak, found in the Tahari. They scavenge on carrion; similar to the Earth vulture.

Zadit

The zadit is a small, tawny-feathered, sharp-billed bird of the Tahari; it is insectivorous, feeding on sand flies and other similar insects; they often land on a kaiila and spend long periods hunting the sand flies that infest the host animal.

Crustaceans
Clam (Tamber)

This is a mollusk found in the Tamber Gulf around Port Kar. Its shell can be polished and cut for the ornamentation of cheap, but beautiful jewelry.

Mollusk

The mollusk is alike to those of the same name on Earth. It is a crustacean, hard-shelled and found in the shallow waters around the Thassa.

Oyster (Tamber Gulf)

This is an oyster found in the Tamber Gulf; it is served raw or baked.

Oyster

This is a mollusk from the Vosk delta. Its meat can be served in many ways and it produces pearls.

Sorp (Vosk)

The Vosk sorp is a giant clam that thrives in the seas and marshes of Gor. The shell of the Vosk sorp is large enough to be used as a throne.

Sorp

The sorp is a shellfish common to the Vosk and other rivers. It is similar to an oyster and like them, it produces pearls and is frequently used in making soups and stews.

Toos

This is a crab-like organism with overlapping plating; it inhabits the Nest and scavenges on discarded fungus spores.

Fish
Bint

This is a small carnivorous freshwater fish which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi. A large school of bints can strip a carcass in minutes. The bint is similar to the piranha of Earth.

Carp

This is a fish, alike to those of the same name on Earth. They inhabit the freshwaters of Gor, especially thriving in the Vosk delta region.

Cosian Wingfish

The Cosian Wingfish is a tiny, blue, saltwater fish with four (4) poisonous spines on its dorsal fin; its liver is considered a delicacy in Turia. It is also called the songfish as during mating season, the fish raise their heads from the water and emit a high-pitched whistling sound.

Eel (Dock)

This is a black freshwater fish that is about four (4) feet long and weighs between eight (8) to ten (10) pounds. The dock eel is carnivorous and inhabits the shallow waters around the docks and wharves of river ports, such as those in Port Kar.

Eel (Vosk)

This is a freshwater fish that inhabits the waters off the Vosk river. They are mainly scavengers that hide under docks and pilings, in the shade, around populated areas feeding off garbage and other organic material, even to eating human flesh.

Eel

This is a voracious animal which can maim or kill a slave in moments. Some varieties are edible and considered a gorean delicacy. There are several species of gorean eel.

Fish (Parsit)

This is a silvery, freshwater fish having brown stripes. It inhabits the rivers and lakes of Gor. Its meat is usually served in filets which are either fried or baked.

Fish (Salt Thassa)

This is a small fish from gleaming Thassa. It can be served baked or broiled. This fish might be similar to an Earth anchovy.

Gint (Giant)

This is a larger cousin of the gint, being similar in appearance, but with four (4) spines on its dorsal fin; it is also amphibious and capable of walking on its pectoral fins. It is found further east in the jungles inland of Schendi than its smaller cousin.

Gint

The gint is a tiny, six (6) inch, freshwater fish which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi. It has bulbous eyes and flipper-like fins. Being amphibious, having both lungs and gills; it is capable of walking on its pectoral fins. It is often found in the company of tharlarion, feeding off the scraps of their kills.

Grunt (Blue)

The blue grunt is a small, voracious, carnivorous, freshwater fish, related to the Thassa grunt. Like its larger cousin, the blue grunt is attracted by blood. Its meat is cut and served into filets or diced into rich soups.

Grunt (Great Speckled)

The great speckled grunt is a fish that inhabits the Thassa; similar to the shark of Earth. Its meat is cut and served into filets or diced into rich soups.

Grunt (White-Bellied)

This is a game fish which inhabits plankton beds to feed on parsit fish. They are found in the cold waters of the Polar North and as far south as Torvaldsland. Their eggs, which are small and black, are a delicacy and possibly like Gorean caviar.

Grunt

The grunt is a large, carnivorous, saltwater fish which inhabits Thassa; it is often attracted by the blood of a wounded creature; similar to the shark of Earth. Its meat is cut and served into filets or diced into rich soups.

Lelt

A small, five (5) to seven (7) inch, blind fish with fern-like filaments on either side of the head which are its sensory organs; it is white, with long fins, it swims slowly and is the main food of the salt shark. It inhabits the brine pits such as those at Klima in the Tahari.

Pike

This is a fish, similar in most aspects to the Earth variety. They measure fifteen (15) inches long and swim in large schools of perhaps many dozen. They feed much like Earth piranha or barracuda; their razor-sharp teeth stripping and devouring the skin and flesh from their kills.

Shark (Marsh)

This is a deadly freshwater hunter of the Gorean marshes and swamps . It is similar in shape to the shark of Earth. Its meat is sometimes served as filets or steaks or in hearty soup.

Shark (Northern)

This is a shark that inhabits the Polar Basin of northern arctic Gor. It is hunted by the Red Hunters of that region.

Shark (River)

This is a narrow, black, vicious, freshwater, carnivorous fish with a triangular dorsal fin; it inhabits the rivers of Gor.

Shark (Salt)

The salt shark is a long-bodied, carnivorous fish having gills situated under the jaw, several rows of triangular teeth, a sickle-like tail and a sail-like dorsal fin. It can grow to be twelve (12) feet long or more. It inhabits brine pits such as those at Klima in the Tahari.

Insects
Ant (Marcher)

This is an aggressive, carnivorous insect. The marcher ant is about two (2) inches long with a shiny black exterior and two (2) antennae. Its bite is extremely painful but not poisonous. Its victims die from being weakened from relentless attack, eventually being overcome. It inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Arthropod

This is an insect with eight (8) legs, which lives in the tunnels of the Priest-Kings in the Sardar Mountains. Its eyes protrude on stalks from its head. It is very skittish and spooks easily.

Bee (Honey)

This is an insect alike to those of Earth; a producer of honey and beeswax They are housed in great hives and the hives cleared from time to time for honey and wax.

Beetle (Golden)

This is an insect, roughly the size of a rhinoceros, which lives in the caverns below the Nest of the Priest-Kings in the Sardar Mountains; its prey is the Priest-Kings themselves. It emits narcotic, intoxicating odors toward its prey from special hairs along its back, gradually drawing it closer. Eventually, tired and drugged, the prey succumbs to its powerful jaws, which puncture the body and suck out the body fluids.

Beetle

These appear much the same as those of Earth. They are brown or black and often infest lower class dwellings in larger cities, such as Ar.

Centipede

An insect alike to those of Earth; it inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Fly (Needle, Sting)

This insect originates from the Vosk delta and similar regions, its sting is extremely painful but usually not dangerous unless inflicted in great numbers; similar to the Earth hornet or wasp. It is drawn to things that shine, such as the wetness of the eyes.

Fly (Sand)

Found among the oases of the Tahari, sand flies attack humans and kaiila. They tend to fly in great swarms, roused usually after a heavy rain.

Fly (Zarlit)

A large, two (2) foot long, insect that inhabits the Vosk delta. It has four (4) large, translucent wings with a span of about a yard, or three (3) feet. It has large, pad-like feet on which, when it alights, it can rest on the water, or pick its way delicately across the surface; most are purple in color. Its appearance is rather formidable but it is harmless, at least to humans. The zarlit fly is similar to the dragonfly of Earth.

Fly

This is akin to the larger biting fly (the gadfly), of Earth which feed on horses and other large animals.

Gitch

This is an insect similar to the fire ant of Earth. It has a very painful bite.

Grasshopper (Red)

The Gorean red grasshopper is only about four (4) ounces in weight. This insect is red in color and resembles the Earth grasshopper. It inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Hint

This is a small, flea-like insect. Unlike fleas, the hint (plural is hinti) does not feed on the host animal, nor is is considered a parasite.

Louse (Tarn)

This is an insect which tends to infest the feathers of wild tarns; it is the size of a marble and whitish colored. Tarns seem to enjoy eating this insect when it is removed from their feathers and fed to them.

Louse

This insect is alike to those of the same name on Earth. They can infest almost any creature with hair or feathers. Slaves often are plagued with them on long sea voyages, making it a requirement that they be immersed in a liquid pesticide to kill the lice before a ship may disembark in a given port. Many slaves are shaven or this reason, allowing for more sanitary conditions amid ships.

Priest-King

A Priest-King is an insect; standing eighteen (18) to twenty (20) feet tall with six (6) legs, of which the front two (2) are angled like that of the Earth praying mantis. Blades are hidden within these forelegs and are able to snap out with lightning speed. They communicate among themselves with scent and among other races with a translator box around their abdomen. Most Priest-Kings are born as nymphs — having neither male nor female reproductive organs, The exceptions are the Mother, who rules the nest and a true male, who, like the mother, has wings and takes flight during mating.

Rennel

The rennel is a poisonous, crab-like desert insect. It will defend its nest when disturbed. It is communal and many may live within one nest.

Roach

This insect is very similar to those on Earth. It is large, black, oblong and flat-bodied. It is harmless, but tends to infest lower-class buildings.

Termite

This is an insect alike to those of Earth; it inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Vint

This is an insect which lives in the Tahari; it is sand-colored and small.

Mammals
Anteater

This is a twenty (20) foot long mammal which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi. It has spines along its back and feeds on termites by digging into the termite mounds with its claws and then using its sticky tongue to scoop out the insects into its tube-like mouth. It is harmless, unless provoked.

Bosk

Though similar in build to the yak of Earth, the bosk bears the heavier form of the Earth buffalo and like him, provides food, leather and many of the needs of the people of Gor. The meat may be roasted or broiled, dried, stewed or served in a myriad of ways. There are some fifteen different species of bosk.

Deer

This is a mammal found in the northern latitudes of Gor, north of Torvaldsland. This animal is the most common prey of wild Kurii; those adapted to living on Gor's surface after being abandoned by the steel ships. The Gorean deer is similar to those of the same name on Earth.

Frevet

This is an urt-like mammal. It eats insects such as beetles and lice and usually kept within buildings in the river towns to control the spreading of such unwanted pests indoors. They are nocturnal and generally shy from humans.

Gatch (Armored)

This is a marsupial mammal which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi. It might be similar to an armadillo of Earth.

Giani

This is a mammal of solitary habits which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi. They are cat-sized panthers, and not dangerous to humans.

Goat

This is the Gorean counterpart to the Earth goat. It is used in much the same way, its skin can be used for bedding or clothing, it's milk for drinking or for cheese and butter and its meat can also be eaten. It is both wild and domesticated. Its natural habitat lies in the mountains of Thentis.

Hurt

A kangaroo-like animal whose wool is used for cloth. It is raised in the Mountains of Thentis and its wool is the main export from that region.

Kaiila (Desert)

Also known as the sand kaiila, this omnivorous animal is related to the kaiila and is similar in most aspects barring pelt color and rearing of young; pelt color is tawny or black and young are suckled for a length of time. The men of the Tahari desert use this animal as a mount. Its milk is a reddish color and is palatable to humans.

Kaiila

A large, twenty (20) to twenty two (22) hands high, carnivorous mammal with a long neck and silky fur; its eyes have three (3) lids; it is viviparous, has incredible stamina, and can be domesticated for riding in spite of its vicious temper. In the Tahari, its long hair is used for rope. Its milk is potable by humans. Its coat can range from a silky back to a chestnut brown. It is very similar in build to Earth horses.

Kailiauk (Barrens)

This is a gigantic, dangerous beast that stands twenty (20) to twenty-five (25) hands at the shoulder and weighing as much as four thousand (4,000) lbs. They migrate across the Barrens in massive herds, hunted by the Red Savages and those who trade in their hides. They have a trident horn.

Kailiauk (Forest)

This is a four-legged wide-headed, lumbering, stocky ruminant, described as short-trunked and tawny. The males have 3 trident-like horns, with brown and reddish bars on the haunches. Their horns and tooled hides are major exports of the port of Schendi.

Kailiauk

This is a stocky ruminant, tawny with red and brown markings on its haunches, having three (3) horns; it stands between twenty (20) to twenty five (25) hands high at the shoulder. Its young are born within a blood frenzy, giving rise to the belief that these creatures are born vicious and blood-thirsty.

Kur

A corruption of their name for themselves): This is a large, eight (8) to nine (9) foot tall, black-furred, mammal having four (4) appendages, which can stand upright or on all fours; each paw has six (6) multiply-jointed digits with retractable claws and an opposing thumb so that it can grip; it has two (2) rows of teeth. Kurii are incredibly strong and ferocious, and are carnivorous, even to eating humans.

Larl (Jungle)

Less dangerous to man than the northern larl, the jungle larl inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Larl (White)

Standing taller than any other variety of larl; eight (8) feet at the shoulder, the snow larl is by far the most ferocious. It inhabits only the Sardar mountains. Only two (2) such creatures have been known to exist; discovered by Tarl Cabot of Ko-ro-ba during his expedition into the Sardar.

Larl

The larl is a large, seven (7) foot high at the shoulder feline; it is tawny red or black in color, the black larls having a mane; it is carnivorous, similar to the Earth lion. Larls cover a vast variety of terrain, from the Voltai mountains to the Plains of Turia.

Lart

This is a mammalian animal with four (4) legs; is about ten (10) inches high and weighs between eight (8) to twelve (12) pounds. It hunts during the day. The food in the second stomach can be held almost indefinitely. It is filled in the fall and lasts the animal through the winter night, which lasts months. It eats bird's legs and preys on the leem. Its pelt is snowy white, very thick and highly prized by the Red Hunters of the Polar North.

Leem

A small arctic rodent between five (5) to ten (10) ounces in weight; it hibernates during the winter. Its pelt is sold by the Red Hunters; inhabits the Polar North. Possibly similar to a rabbit or hare of Earth.

Monkey (Guernon)

This is a simian mammal found in the jungle along the Ua river. This monkey is easily recognized by its chattering sound.

Monkey (Jit)

A simian mammal which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Panther (Forest)

This is a tawny feline alike to the mountain lion or Florida panther of Earth. It is a predatory cat that lives in the Northern Forests. Commonly hunted by the Panther Girls for its skin, which they wear for clothing. In addition, its teeth and claws might also be extracted for decorations on their jewelry.

Panther (Jungle)

Less dangerous to man than the northern variety, the jungle panther is an inhabitant of the jungles inland of Schendi. Like its northern cousin, the jungle panther is hunted by the southern counterparts of the Panther Girls; called talunas, they hunt the panther for its claws, teeth and skin.

Porcupine (Long-Tailed)

The Gorean porcupine is much the same as its Earth cousin. It inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi and has a long tail. This animal is also arboreal (lives in and around trees).

Quala

This is a small, dun-colored, three (3) toed mammal with a stiff, brushy mane of black hair; pl. qualae.

Slee

The slee is a rodent which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Sleen (Sea)

A long sleek mammal with flippers and six (6) legs and double fanged jaws. It can weigh as much as one thousand (1,000) pounds and measure as long as twenty (20) feet in length. It is hunted by the Red Hunters for food and for its pelt. The sea sleen inhabits the colder, northern waters of Gor, ranging from the semi-frozen waters of Torvaldsland to the near-freezing waters of the Polar North.

Sleen

A cross between a weasel and a Komodo dragon, the sleen is furred with fangs. It is some twenty (20) feet long, having six (6) legs and two (2) rows of teeth. There are four (4) types: the prairie sleen, which is tawny; the forest sleen, which is black or brown; the aquatic sea sleen; and the white snow sleen. It can be domesticated for herding and tracking. Tenacious, they can track a trail days old as if it were fresh, rending and killing the object of the hunt. Sleen are pack animals and cared for only by their Masters so that they are not befriended by a slave who may try to escape.

Squirrel (Black)

Akin to the squirrels of Earth; it inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi. It is much the same as a squirrel from Earth.

Tabuk (Northern)

The northern tabuk is a massive tawny beast, swift, and much larger than its smaller southern cousin, standing ten (10) hands at the shoulders. They have a single spiraling ivory horn, which at its base can be two and one half (2 1/2) inches in diameter and over a yard in length. The Red Hunters are irremovably tied to the tabuk for sustenance and the devices of daily living — much like the Wagon Peoples and their bosk, and the Red Savages and their kailiauk.

Tabuk (Prairie)

This animal is described as tawny and gazelle-like with a single horn, it responds to threat by scurrying away or lying down. Presumably, this response is useful because of the high grass of the Barrens, as most predators depend on vision to detect and locate their prey.

Tabuk

The tabuk is a swift, gazelle-like animal, being yellow in color and having a single horn. Known for its sweet meat, the tabuk is generally served roasted. Tarns, whether wild or domesticated, are fond of this animal as prey.

Tarsk (Giant)

This is the larger cousin of the tarsk, standing ten (10) hands high at the shoulder.

Tarsk

This is a porcine animal akin to the Earth pig, having a bristly mane which runs down its spine to the base of the tail. It is not a favored food, being a carrion eater, but is a staple food among the rence growers of the Vosk delta.

Urt (Brush)

The brush urt is smaller than its cousin, the forest urt, but no less dangerous. It inhabits bushy, leafy, dense underbrush areas within the Northern Forests.

Urt (Canal)

Also called a river urt, this is a larger member of the urt family, having the same tusks and horns as the land-dwelling variety. Its silken coat is prized among hunters. It often is found in and around the canals of Port Kar, where it feeds on refuse. The river urt is extremely fast and cunning, especially in the water.

Urt (Forest)

The forest urt is dog-sized, but possess the same appearance as the normal urt. It inhabits the Northern forests of Gor.

Urt (Gliding)

This is a rodent, related to the common urt. It inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. The Gorean gliding urt is akin to the sugar glider of Earth.

Urt (Ground)

This is a small rodent which inhabits the floor of the jungles inland of Schendi and also within the Northern Forests of Gor. It is the favored prey of the hook-billed gort.

Urt (Leaf)

This is a small tree-dwelling rodent, having four (4) toes, which inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Urt (Tree)

This is a small tree-climbing rodent found in the jungles inland of Schendi.

Urt (White)

This rare urt has only been seen under the palace of Tharna, formerly ruled by the Tatrix, Lara. It is massive, standing over six (6) feet at the shoulder, with the same silken fur as its smaller cousins. Its fur is white and the its eyes are red, meaning this beast is likely an albino; it's body lacking pigment. It is ferocious and is specially trained in order to be domesticated. It is not known, nor has it ever been mentioned that others like the white urt of Tharna exist.

Urt

This is a small, silken-furred rodent akin to the Earth rat; it has three (3) rows of teeth, two (2) tusks and two (2) horns.

Vart (Jungle)

This is a relative of the northern vart, it inhabits the jungles inland of Schendi.

Vart

The vart is a blind, bat-like flying rodent, about the size of a small dog; a terrier. They are trained on the Island of Tyros as weapons.

Verr

The verr is a mountain goat indigenous to the Voltai Mountains; wild, agile, ill-tempered, with long hair and spiraling horns. It is a source of wool. Its meat can be eaten and milk can be used for drinking or for making cheese and butter.

Whale (Baleen)

This is a bluish, blunt-finned whale, often hunted by the Red Hunters. It is similar to the beluga whale of Earth.

Whale (Hunjer)

This is a large, black, sharp-toothed whale which is hunted by the Red Hunters. It is similar to the killer whale, or orca, of Earth. It inhabits the frigid waters of the Polar North.

Whale (Karl)

This is a four (4) fluke baleen whale hunted by the Red Hunters of the Polar North.

Zeder

This is a small, sleen-like, carnivorous mammal which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi, especially along the Ua River. The zeder grows to around two (2) feet long and weighs between eight (8) to ten (10) pounds. It is diurnal, can swim very well, and builds a stick-and-mud nest in the branches of a tree, where it spends the night.

Reptiles
Hith (Banded)

The banded hith is a huge, python-like snake which inhabits certain areas of the Northern Forests. It has bands along its body and can grow very large; some have been seen at twenty (20) feet long. Unlike the ost, the hith is a constrictor; using its strong muscles along its coils to trap and suffocate its prey. These snakes, when large enough, are feared throughout the forests they inhabit.

Hith (Golden)

A rare Gorean python so large, it would be difficult for a man to encircle its body with his arms.

Lizard (Water)

This is a small reptile that inhabits the swamps and marshes of Gor. A carrion feeder, a pack of them can strip a carcass to the bone in only a few ehn.

Mamba

This is a large, predatory river tharlarion which inhabits the rivers of the jungles inland of Schendi. It has a long, log-like body, short, powerful legs and a long snout and tail; similar to the Earth crocodile.

Moccasin (Marsh)

This is a very rare, poisonous snake found in the Vosk delta. They are very hard to see, having dark bodies and holding their triangular heads on level in water.

Ost (Banded)

This is a species of ost with orange and black markings. Its venom is as deadly as the solid orange variety.

Ost (Rainforest)

This is the jungle variety of ost, just as deadly as its orange cousin. It's colorings are similar to an Earth coral snake.

Ost

This is a tiny snake, about twelve (12) inches long and bright orange in color. Its venom causes an extremely painful death within seconds.

Saurian (Marine)

The marine saurian is a fish-like reptilian; more than twenty (20) feet in length. It inhabits the Thassa.

Tarsier

This is a large, swift beast which can grow to be forty (40) hands at the shoulders. It is a warm blooded reptile and is used in battle. Its smaller cousin is used as a draft animal on Gor.

Tharlarion (Broad)

The broad tharlarion is a sluggish tharlarion used as a draft animal; it is herbivorous.

Tharlarion (Draft)

This is a broad-backed type of tharlarion. It is herbivorous and very docile. Its service has long been used for the pulling of large merchant wagons.

Tharlarion (High)

The high tharlarion is an agile tharlarion used as a mount for riding. Like Tyrannosaurus Rex, it has very short, almost useless, forelegs and is carnivorous.

Tharlarion (Horned)

This is a lizard-like animal used much in the same way as the draft tharlarion, pulling wagons and heavy carts. It is much alike to its cousin, except that unlike the common draft tharlarion, this animal has horns.

Tharlarion (Marsh)

The marsh tharlarion is a vicious aquatic reptile that inhabits the swamps and marshes of Gor. It is both large and fearless. It will usually not stop an attack unless slain or severely wounded. Its only known weak spot is its tender, brown tongue (being long and supple) and its eyes.

Tharlarion (River)

The river tharlarion is an extremely large, herbivorous, web-footed lizard used by bargemen of the Cartius River to pull barges. River tharlarions tend to be very docile and non-aggressive.

Tharlarion (Rock)

The rock tharlarion is a small reptile of the Tahari.

Tharlarion (Water)

Described as not much more than "teeth and tail", this tiny, yellow scavenger follows in the wake of larger tharlarion and is not more than six (6) inches long. It inhabits the marshes.

Tharlarion

This is one (1) of several types of large, carnivorous reptiles, some of which have been domesticated. Its fat is rendered to provide lamp oil. This animal is used by the less civilized masses on Gor with the belief that its riders have yet to master the training and riding of the tarn, Gor's fierce saddle bird.

Turtle (Marsh)

This is a turtle, alike to those of Earth. They prey on small fish in the marshes and wetlands of Gor.

Turtle (Vosk)

This is a large, vicious reptile from the Vosk river. They are imported live to Ar during the fair of En'Kara for use in the great coliseum games in which chambers of the great arenas are flooded and animals such as these are fought in great ship battles.

Ul

The ul has been described as a flying thalarion.. somewhat like a dragon inhabiting  the swamps of the Vosk delta. It is nocturnal and very dangerous to the unwary traveler.

Leech (Marsh)

This is a green, rubbery parasite; it is edible, though generally not a favored food. It is either eaten raw or dried. It inhabits the marshes and swamps of Gor. The marsh leech is only a few inches long. Eaten raw, it has a very slimy, bland taste.

Leech (Salt)

Leeches, very similar to those found on Earth. They inhabit the Vosk Delta.

Worm (Slime)

This animal is a long, slow, blind worm which inhabits the caverns below the Nest in the Sardar; it scavenges on the remains of the Golden Beetle's kills.
