Citizens and Guests,
In preparation for the coming storm front
the docks will be closed during the worst of
the storm. To lessen the chance of a ship
pulling loose from its moorings and doing
damage to the docks, or any of the
established business on the dockside, all
ships will be moved and tied off on the
outer docks by the forward and aft at the
least, and preferably by several points on
the sides while in dock. It is also
recommended that all crews be sent to land
side barracks to keep them safer. It is
recommended that all business on dockside
should close your doors for business during
this storm. Shipwrights, it is also
recommended you tether any floating
construction to the outer docks, or put them
in dry dock to ensure they do not pull loose
and damage your yards.
Those of you who live on your ships would be
advised to seek shelter in one of the Inns,
or within the houses of other citizens.
The morning after the storm passes the docks
will remain closed until mid day for
cleanup, then tugs and ferrys will be used
to bring the merchant ships back into the
harbor area.
While the reports on this storm are such
that the conditions will be less severe as
other cities are facing, we will take no
chances on the predictable nature of a
storm.
For emergency assistance the Thassan Watch
will be on patrol at their full strength
before and after the storm.

STORM UPDATE
The tropical
storm is expected to reach its
peak this hands-end, but
the ferocity
has been downgraded sharply to
torrential rain, variable
gusting
winds...some
possibly very strong...and some
flooding. Sandbags are in place,
and men and
physicians are ready to assist
any residents or property owners
if needed.

STORM WARNING!!!
All citizens should prepare for this
storm, shuttering or boarding up
windows and securing your property.
The city is already under storm
alert, with slaves making sandbags
to protect from the storm surge and
help prevent flooding of the city
proper. Sandbags will also be
available to property owners. The
tropical storm is expected to
have downgraded to only
heavier-than-usual rain and gusty
winds by the time it reaches Schendi,
but all storms are unpredictable,
and we prefer to be prepared.
We urge you to take this alert
seriously. Word is being sent to all
Schendi ships to make harbor as soon
as possible and prepare for heavy
weather. We expect the storm to be
over by the time guests are arriving
for the Festival but could be in for
a siege beforehand.

It is with great sadness that I must
impart this news:
The guest, slaver Krismon Tabin, was
found dead of injuries
at the Storm Schendi Inn last eve,
the 5th day of the Third Hand
of the Month of Daluni (5) in the
Year 10,158 CA (8/2/08).
Details on how he died remain
sketchy,
but it is believed to be associated
with the capture
of his new companion, Daynger
Tehrror,
who left the city to go into the
jungle to meet her brother
and never returned. No ransom demand
was received
and due to the location of the
capture, and the fact the lady
did not alert anyone to the location
of the meeting, there was too little
information to track the
perpetrator.
Krismon was apparently the victim of
a dagger attack,
which also took place outside the
city. Guards found him
apparently trying to make his way
back to the city,
but he passed to the City of Dust
before he made it there,
and the guards brought him to the
inn.
A pyre is planned for this next hand
(Wednesday, 8/6/08, at 9 pm est, 8
pm cst, 6 pm pst).
Per Krismon's last wishes, his slave
Vv zahra vV
will also join him in the City of
Dust to continue serving him there.
I would like to take this
opportunity to give a huge warning,
especially to our guests, of the
dangers of the jungles.
Though we have areas of the jungle
that are patrolled, the jungle is
not
a park or nature preserve. There are
jungle larls, poisonous osts,
large hiths, barred panthers, wild
ferocious tarsks, and wild jungle
tarns,
not to mention taluna, Mambas, and
some other native tribes not
friendly to
city people. All of these can mean
death, and these are only a few
of the jungle dangers. Nobody, I
repeat, nobody
should casually go into the jungle.
Only those with a native guide and
many guards should even attempt it,
and only with good reason.

The Isle of Gortuga was
among the first to feel the wrath of the Hurricane. As
the storm drew closer preparations were in full swing
getting homes protected, supplies in place and everyone
moved to higher ground. With Alda and his companion
leaving the Isle well before the storm hit many others
chose to remain. Captain Jack had many take shelter in
the connected series of caves that were in some of the
higher elevations. Most of the Isle made it to some form
of shelter but there is one known incident of a dock
worker and his companion missing, for now their son in
the care of Captain Jack and his companion Winnie
Donkraff after being found during one of the breaks in
the storm and brought to the caves. Minor injuries were
had by Aeredhel Ordered and Tsi Pai in making sure
others were safely within the caves. While riding the
storm out there was even a claiming by Aeredhel of his
former slave, now known as Andrea Ordred. Now that the
storm has passed by repairs have begun to damaged ships,
docks and homes as well as replanting uprooted crops at
Gortuga Farms. At this time some members of the Isle
have traveled to the main land to obtain needed supplies
for rebuilding.
